Globally Empowered Safeguarding & Child Protection Policy

1. Our Safeguarding Commitment

Globally Empowered is committed to providing a safe, positive, and empowering digital environment for all children and young people participating in our platform, online workshops, and global youth summits. We maintain a zero-tolerance approach toward child abuse, exploitation, harassment, or harm in any form.


2. Purpose and Scope

This policy applies to all Globally Empowered team members, regional partners, event hosts, volunteers, and participating educators. It governs all virtual events (including the Global Youth Video Conference) and website interactions involving young people under 18 years of age.


3. Core Principles

  • Welfare First: The safety and well-being of young people are paramount in all event design and organizational decisions.

  • Inclusion & Equal Protection: All young people have an equal right to protection from harm regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or background.

  • School & Institutional Collaboration: We work in direct partnership with participating schools, headteachers, and school safeguarding teams to verify and support student delegates.


4. Digital Platform Safeguards

  • No Unmoderated Peer Interaction: The Globally Empowered website strictly does not feature student-to-student direct messaging, unmoderated chat rooms, or public student profile pages.

  • School Verification: All registrations submitted via Google Forms or website portals require verification of school affiliation before access credentials or conference links are distributed.

  • EU GDPR Data Protection: Student data is encrypted and hosted securely in European data centres via Odoo S.A.


5. Virtual Event & Video Conference Protocols

During live virtual summits and workshops:

  1. Dual Supervision: Every virtual room, panel, or breakout session must be attended by at least two vetted adult facilitators or school coordinators.

  2. No 1-on-1 Private Contact: Adult facilitators, speakers, or team members must never communicate with student delegates individually via personal email, personal phone, social media, or private message. All communications must flow through official school contact leads.

  3. Controlled Access: All virtual rooms use waiting rooms and passwords. Event hosts retain administrative authority to mute, disable video, or remove any individual breaching online etiquette.

  4. Media Consent: Recording of live sessions requires prior written consent from participating schools and/or parents/guardians.


6. Incident Reporting & Response

If a safety concern is raised or inappropriate behavior occurs during a Globally Empowered initiative:

  1. Immediate Action: The event host will isolate or remove the offending individual from the session.

  2. Documentation: Detailed, factual records of the incident will be logged immediately.

  3. Escalation: The incident will be escalated to the Designated Safeguarding Lead at safeguarding@globallyempowered.org.uk.

  4. School & Authority Notification: The DSL will collaborate with the student's official school safeguarding lead and statutory child protection authorities as necessary.
